So, my 9 year old son was watching this movie, and he said, unprovoked, "Dad, this movie is really bad." Very perceptive. We watched it all the way to the end.

They’re talking about Parent Trap, but of course the ‘swap places’ plot is practically archetypal. The earliest I can think of is The Man in the Iron Mask, but I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that there’s a set of clay tablets relating how Gilgamesh and Enkidu swapped places - with hilarious consequences!

The A Christmas Prince sequel (about the royal wedding) drops tomorrow, I believe! And from the promos, they have leaned into the stuff the internet found the most enjoyably ridiculous from the first one.

I enjoyed this movie SO much, even though that pink suit was offensively badly fitting and the fake jewels were designed to look extra fake and clearly they were trolling bakers with half of it. I need way more of this trash.

The earliest swap story I know is Vice Versa: A Lesson to Fathers (1882) about a boarding school boy and a business dad who switch places because of a magic stone from India (because Victorians).
